Question about an error i am getting with windows seven

I was wondering if anybody else has received this same error or not. whenever I go into my documents, computer, music, etc, it works for a few seconds and then jaws will shut off for a breif minute and come back saying documents is not responding, or music is not responding. so then if i close the program or restart the program using the task manager, it won't start back up. So then i mannualy go into documents or whatever, and it gives me the following error. the remote procedure call failed but did not execute.

It drives me nuts. If anybody else has this same problem, or had this same problem, how did you fix it?

Thank you in advance,
Charlene

This is certainly an issue with the operating system not responding correctly. Is it just with that folder? If so that is strange
I don't know about windows 7 but I do know that for that to happen something is seriously wrong.

I get something simelar. If I leave the documents folder open, I get a not responding message. Eventually, an error reporting shows up. If I look at the details it only has a filed called...Well, looks like I can't get the name right now. It's a text file.
Also, if I delete or copy a file, the folder does not update with the changes I made. This is only in the documents folder.

I'm an active windows 7 user, never seen this message before. what screen reader are you using, and what version? i know the earlier jaws 11 versions had slight problems, but the latest one has fixed it from what i can tell.

I am pretty sure that i am using the latest version of jaws eleven, unless there was an update just recently. i will have to check that out when i get home. i'm really not sure what the deal is, but it's definitely weird. to answer the person who asked if it was just for that one folder, no, it is for a bunch of folders such as user, music, documents, computer, etc... After i get that remote procedure error, it mysteriously puts me in the start menu. damn computers lol.

this kind of sounds like something has gone wrong with your OS install to me. having used windows 7 on two computers now i've never seen that issue before. double check you have the latest jaws 11 to be sure.

Thought it might be...this is certainly not a screen reader issue.

nope. I'm using Jaws 10

Rat, this isn't a screenreader issue, its a 7 issue.

it doesn't help to have an updated screen reader though, as that can help solve some issues.

True, but not with this issue. Anyway, jaws 10 and 11 will work fine with7.

A screen reader wouldn't cause this.

While there was some crashing with previous builds of jaws11, and windows explorer, acording to the what's new for jaws11.0.756 this was fixed.
In doing just a brief google search on: remote procedure call failed and did not execute I would suggest a few things. 1. make sure the RPC service is enabled. and the second instance of RPC is set to manual. Also, In folder options, make sure file preview is turned off. Also, I've read a few forums that suggest running malware bytes, as it is quite possible something is stopping the service, though not sure what I think about that one. In any event, hope this helps.

Okay people. It's not the screen reader. This issue only effects some machines and not others for some reason. I'm one of them. Smile. The problem is the OS and there is a hot fix available. We are advised not to install the hot fix unless the problem is really bad, then you can install the fix. My issue has seemingly fixed with the latest win7 updates, so get these first. If your problem continues then here is how you find the hot fix. Sorry I don't have the link, but I'll post it here. Google or bing "Windows explore.exe stops working or hangs." You'll get answers to the fix. This problem wil be solved with the upcoming service pack 1.

I may just do a reformat. i just bought an external hard drive for my computer yesterday, and backed up all of my documents to it. Now, to go about reformatting, i have no idea. I've never done that myself before. I wish that my computer guy who sold me this laptop would give me more details about these discs that he made for me. as far as i can ubnderstand, they are back up discs, and there are four of them. any ideas of how to use those discs would help. i already tried putting the first one into my computer, but it just brings up a list of all these different folders, like boot, and zimages and what not.

You can do a repair instead of fully reformating. I only have an upgrade I burned to a disk. Can you reformat or repair with it?

Post 18 by Char (The sexy canadian) on Sunday, 21-Mar-2010 17:07:56

Okay, so i had my uncle help me with reformatting my computer last night, and it turns out that the discs that the computer guy i got this computer from are 32 bit instead of 64 bit. like is he on crack or something? wow. so now i am not sure what to do. everything else works perfectly fine except for windows explorer...

I explained the issue. Smile. You wasted time reformating. You either install the hot fix, or you wait until service pack 1 is available. My problem is not bad, so it works smoothly mostly. Plus installing all the latest updates seemed to help. You are trying to hard. Read the article. Get the hot fix. That is your fix. Also go to mateance and create a backup dis. That will keep you from reformating. Windows 7 is a different OS and has easier repair options, but nothing was wrong with yours in the top you could fix without Microsofts help. Smile.

Peace.

Be sure you have updated your windows with all the current updates Microsoft has issued out to their windows7 users.

t's not in the updates. It is a glitch, so a hot fix, or waiting on pack 1 is it. The girls over at Microsoft know their business. Smile.
